Mr. James W. Gosney
A memorial service Saturday, October 29, 2011 will mark the celebration of the life of James Wayne “Jim” Gosney who died at his home in Clarksville, Tennessee, October 21. He was 61. The service will be at Platt’s Funeral Home on Belair Road in Evans, at 2:00pm.
An additional memorial service is being planned for Clarksville. It will be at Neal - Tarpley Funeral Home, Thursday, October 27, 2011, at 4:00pm
Jim had lived in Clarksville for the past 20 years and until his retirement five years ago had been a hardwood lumber broker with Averitt, Lumber Company. Born in Charleston, WVA, he had moved with his family to Augusta at the age of three. He attended public schools in Augusta, graduating from Richmond Academy, and then attending and graduating from the University of Georgia. He was a member of Kappa Alpha order.
Following graduation from Georgia, Jim entered the lumber profession as a sales broker, working with firms in Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee. While with Averitt Lumber, Jim became active in lumber professional organizations throughout the country and was quite well-known throughout the industry.
A few years ago, Jim developed a form of a genetic hereditary disease know as Alpha 1 antitypic, which quite often advances to emphysema, as it did in his case. He has relied heavily on the support of the Alpha-1 Association and has requested that charitable contributions be made to the Association, 2937 SW 27th Avenue, Suite 106, Miami, FL, 33133
Gosney is survived by his mother, Mrs. Gerry G. Davis; step-father James Davis, both of Augusta; and, one brother, H.W. Gosney (Harriett) of Cramer Mountain, NC.
Saturday’s service will be conducted by the Rev. Paul Sherwood of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church in Augusta. Interment will be private.
