Augusta, GA. J. Ray Allen, 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April
26, 2015.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Crawford Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Brian LaFavor officiating. Interment to follow in Westover Memorial Park. Mr. Allen will lie in state one hour prior to services in the sanctuary.

Ray has been a member of Crawford Avenue Baptist Church for 69 years, where he
served as deacon, Sunday School teacher and coached church basketball and
softball teams.

Ray loved sports and excelled in baseball and basketball. He received many
trophies and recognitions at Augusta Richmond Academy, where he graduated
with honors. He further received a full scholarship for basketball and
baseball at The University of Georgia, earning a degree in Accounting with
honors. This took him forward into minor league baseball, until an injury
shortened his sports career.

He began his accounting career here in Richmond County as city comptroller,
later becoming the comptroller of Columbia County.

Mr. Allen is survived by his beloved
sister, Bobbie Anderson (Bill),
numerous nieces and nephews, including especially devoted nephews: Doc Allen
and Butch Lord. He was preceded in death by brother Earl Allen, Sr., and
sisters Lois Franklin and Jean Lord.

Pallbearers will be Doc Allen, Butch Lord, Larry Lord, Joe Price, Phillip Price
Steve Yonce, Josh Crosby, Jimmy Hewett. Honorary pallbearers are Dwight
Burch, Jack Poppell, Robert Ford and Gene Thurmond.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, April 28, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
