Evans, GA - Hartsel J. Brady, 88, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at University Hospital in Augusta, GA. He was married to Katherine Lough Brady for 66 years. He was born in Gassaway, WV on September 9, 1922 and resided in Georgia since 1964. He was the son of the late Amos A. and Lessie G. Brady.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, March 4, 2011 at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Rd. chapel with Rev. Greg Porterfield officiating.

He retired from the US Army in 1964 as a Major, after 23 years of service. Prior to accepting a commission in the army, he served 10 years as an enlisted man. He was the Post Sergeant Major in Mannheim, Germany when he was called to active duty as a commissioned officer. During his military career, Major Brady completed one tour of duty in Panama, two tours in Germany/France and one tour in Korea. He was a graduate of Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL, majoring in business management.

After his retirement from the army, he went to work for the US Civil Service where he completed another 29 years of service. He retired from the US Small Business Administration in 1992 as the Veteran Affairs Officer for the eight Southeastern States.

He was a 32 degree mason in Gassaway Masonic Lodge #133, Gassaway, WV for over 50 years and a member of the Scottish Rite lodge in Atlanta, GA. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, David L. Brady, Cora, Wyoming and one brother, Amos L. (Pete) Brady of Gassaway WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Eloise Brady Shomo and one brother Farrell S. Brady. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist church in Evans, GA.
