Martinez, GA – Mrs. Gertrud “Trudi” Helmerich, 84, wife of Valentin E. Helmerich entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at her home.

The family will be receiving visitors at Platt’s Funeral Home, 337 North Belair Road, Evans GA on Wednesday, July 21 from 6:30-8:30 PM with a brief memorial service at 7PM.

Mrs. Helmerich was born in Mannheim, Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1954 where she met and married her husband, Vally. The couple lived in New York City where they raised their two daughters. While in New York, Mrs. Helmerich worked for the East New York Savings Bank. In 1995, Mr. and Mrs. Helmerich moved to Martinez, GA to be closer to their children.

Mrs. Helmerich loved roses and carousels, playing Canasta and traveling. She was a skilled seamstress and an avid reader. Mrs. Helmerich loved to learn and instilled the importance of education and striving for excellence in her children and grandchildren. Known as Omi to her three grandsons, this devoted wife, mother and grandmother’s greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Mrs. Helmerich is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Valentin Helmerich of Martinez, GA; sister Hedi Meres and her husband George Meres both of Richmond Hill, NY; daughter Susan Holland and her husband William Holland of Cary, NC; daughter Carol Helmerich, of Martinez, GA; and grandsons Steven Holland and Samuel Holland of Cary, NC and Christopher Helmerich of Martinez, GA.

Our dear Omi was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
