Grovetown, GA---Mr. Ernest Edward Murphy, 70, beloved husband of Ann Rickerson Murphy, entered into rest on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Doctors Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 11:00 am at Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Kenneth Word and Dr. Michael Ruffin officiating. Interment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Murphy was a native of Augusta and was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County. He was a member and a deacon at Hill Baptist Church.
He was a business leader and educator in the field of “HVAC-R”, Heating Ventilation Air Condition and Refrigeration, in Augusta. He was the retired owner of Murphy and Sons Refrigeration, more recently, he was a school bus driver, for Columbia County School District. Mr. Murphy was a member of “RSES”, Refrigeration Service Engineers Society and was honored as their Man of the Year, in 2001. He was also a volunteer for Shepeard Community Blood Center.
Survivors, other than his wife include, his children JoAnn Bryant (James), Greg Murphy (Sharon), Brian Murphy (Sheri) and Wendy Walker (Robb), grandchildren Ryan Murphy, Megan Bryant, Brianna Murphy, Devon Bryant, Megan Murphy, Emily Murphy, Savannah Walker, Matthew Murphy and Cameron Walker, brother, Robert Murphy (Judy) and sister, Dorothy Petersen (Tim).
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 4, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Platt’s Crawford Avenue.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Murphy, Robert Andrews, Colin Miller, John Murphy, Eugene Cook and Ed Stalnaker. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sim Folk Sunday School at Hill Baptist Church.
