AUGUSTA- Mrs. Eleanor Reill Hodges, 79, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 17, 2009.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 2:00PM at Platt’s Belair Road Chapel. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.

Born in New York City, Mrs. Hodges had been a resident of Augusta for over 60 years. She appeared in many Augusta Players productions and had the starring role of Nellie Forbush in the musical “South Pacific”, in the 1960’s. Mrs. Hodges was awarded the “Best Actress of the Year” for her performance. She was also known for her beautiful singing voice and her knowledge of show tunes which she loved to sing.

Mrs. Hodges worked for over 40 years in the radio broadcasting industry. She worked many years for the former WBIA radio station, and retired at age 75 from Foxie Radio 103. Known as Miss Ellie by her co-workers, she was a tireless worker who knew the radio advertising business, inside and out. She was a member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, and served as a member of the choir.

She is survived by her three daughters, Judy Thomason (Harry), of North Augusta, Lulline Phillips (Rodney) of Hephzibah, and Mary Lopp (Jeff) of Smyrna, TN., her two sons, Tommy Hodges, Jr. (Jennie) of Grovetown, and Mark Hodges (Mandy) of Moore, OK. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 from 1:00PM until service time.
