Evans, GA – Edward Walter Cleckley, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in Augusta, GA. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth (Lib) Fanning Cleckley. He was the son of the late Ida Randall Cleckley Moseley and the late Edward Walter Cleckley.

Funeral services will be held in the Mausoleum at Westover Memorial Park at 11:00AM on Saturday, February 19, 2011 with Dr. Leslie Holmes officiating.

Mr. Cleckley was born and raised in Aiken, SC. He graduated from the Aiken Institute and the University of South Carolina. While at the University of South Carolina he served as president of his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Vice President of the Senior Class, and was very active in many other organizations on the campus. He was selected as one of the outstanding students in his graduating class. Mr. Cleckley served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a transportation officer in the Communication Zone in Europe for four years. He received five battle stars.

Mr. Cleckley married the former Elizabeth Fanning and they lived in Charlotte, NC for eighteen years. He was associated with the W.R. Bonsal Co. for many years in the prestressed concrete division, which was new on the market at that time. In 1972, he and his family moved to Augusta and he was connected with the Merry Company in the prestressed concrete division.

Mr. Cleckley was a member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, a member of Matthews-Covenant Sunday School class, and the Men’s Friday Morning Prayer Breakfast.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Rev. Walter Cleckley, Jr. and daughter in law, Susan Mansley Cleckley of Lititz, PA, his daughter, Lynn Cleckley Parsons of Greenville, SC, and two grandchildren, Charlotte Cleckley of Lititz, PA, and Cole Parsons of Greenville, SC.

The family will receive friends at the residence from 3:00 PM until 5:00PM on Friday, February 18, 2011 and at the cemetery following the service.
