Dorothy Gray Haney

Mrs. Dorothy Gray Haney, age 98, widow of Mr. James H. Haney, Sr. entered into rest in Augusta, on November 24, 2022.

Memorial services will be held on December 4, 2022 at The Episcopal Church of Our Savior in Martinez, Georgia at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Al Crumpton officiating.

Mrs. Haney was a 1941 graduate of Tubman High School in Augusta. She retired from J.B.White’s department store with over thirty years of service. She and her husband James were avid campers, travelling extensively throughout the United States and Canada. They were one of the founding members of the National Campers and Hikers Association in the state of Georgia in 1960. Serving first as Field Directors, then as State Directors, they helped establish over half a dozen camping clubs in east-central Georgia.

Mrs. Haney was the daughter of the late Albert Stanley Gray and Fannie Metzger Gray of Miami, Florida. She was preceded in death by her three sisters, Myrtice Hamilton, Severa Harrison and Louise Conner.

Survivors include one son, James Haney Jr. and his wife Valerie W. Haney of Grovetown, one granddaughter, Margaret Alice Haney, one great-grandson, Fraser Gray Haney and many nieces and nephews.
