CAROL G. PRYOR, M.D.
AUGUSTA - Dr. Carol G Pryor, wife of the late Dr. Louis O J Manganiello entered into rest on May 12, 2014 at Kentwood Nursing Facility.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 11:00 am at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church with Dr. Mike Cash and Rev. Greg Hatfield officiating. The Committal Service will follow at 3:00 pm at Newington City Cemetery, Newington, GA.
Dr. Pryor was an amazing woman, a critical thinker, and forceful leader who advocated quality patient care. She was a trail blazer for women in the medical field being one of the first women to be certified in Georgia by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the first women member of the Georgia Chapter of American College of Surgeons.
She completed her undergraduate studies at Georgia State College for Women and her medical degree from Medial College of Georgia School of Medicine. She did a six month residency in Pathology at Baroness Erlanger Medical Center where she was the first woman member of the house staff. Her OB/GYN residency was at University of Maryland, John Hopkins and University Hospital in Augusta. Dr. Pryor received the Achievement Award in 1982 and the Georgia College Alumni Heritage award in 2001 from Georgia College. She was named Board of Trustee Emeritus in 2003 for her dedication and service on the Board of Trustees and Foundation of Georgia College. She was appointed by Governor Carl Sanders to the State Medical Education Board 1965-1969 and also appointed by Governor Joe Frank Harris to the Governor’s Council on Maternity and Infant Health, 1981-1990.
She was an active member of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, the American Association of University Women, Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for outstanding educators, the DAR, Richmond County Medical Society, the American Medical Women’s Association and honored at the National Convention as Women of the year in 1961. She is also a former member of the Royal Society of Medicine, London, England.
Dr. Pryor is survived by her daughter, Vicki Mudano (Dr. Mark) of Milledgeville, GA, two grandsons, Lieutenant Robert Mudano and Michael Mudano and was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Helen Manganiello and her sister, Ruth Pryor Edenfield.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm.
