Bruce Pirnie, parent, patriot and impresario, was born in Freeport, New York in 1935. He grew up on Long Island and graduated from Northwood School in Lake Placid, New York. He graduated from Union College in 1957 with a BA in Economics. Upon graduation, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the US Air Force. Bruce continued his education at Columbia University earning a MA in Management in 1959.
Bruce served in the Air Force Reserve for fourteen years with Air Police, intelligence and air defense units. He was very proud of his military service which included repatriation of Vietnam era POWs for which his unit received the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.
While serving in the reserve, he worked for New York Life Insurance, Kaiser Aluminum and finally at Avon Products where he would stay for 31 years. There he held numerous positions focusing on international marketing with assignments in Canada, the United Kingdom, the Philippines, Indonesia and Hong Kong. After retiring from Avon, Bruce consulted for Sara Lee’s direct selling companies in China, the Philippines and Indonesia as well.
Always interested in serving others, Bruce was an officer of Midtown Hospital (NY) and a trustee for Northwood School for 15 years. He also consulted for US Aid in Egypt, Russian and the Ukraine.
He is survived by Patricia Pirnie (nee Mosher) his wife of 62 years, daughters Heather and Jennifer as well as two granddaughters and one great granddaughter.
