Betty Jo Horne Cooper Augusta - Betty Jo Cooper, 89, of Augusta, Georgia passed away peacefully on June 16, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born on January 1, 1934, in Vienna, Georgia to Eugene Madison and Annie Corrine Lewis Horne.
Betty Jo was a loving mother survived by her son Ted Martin Tidwell, Jr., daughter Tracie (Ken) Amrhein; grandchildren Heather (Dave) Denittis, Ben Barton, Mattie Barton, Daniel (Carolyn) Amrhein, Ryan (Tiffany) Amrhein; great-grandchildren George and Anthony Denittis, Dorian Amrhein, and nephews and nieces that were dear to her. She was preceded in death by her husband James Robert "Bobby" Cooper, parents, and brothers Lt. Col. Eugene Lewis Horne, Sr. (Mary Alice), and Robert Jackson Horne, Sr. (Christine).
Betty Jo attended Tubman High School and Augusta Junior College. She was a devoted homemaker who loved her family. She enjoyed traveling, going to the beach, reading, Bible study groups, gardening, volunteering at the hospital, animal rescue, and being with family and friends. She was an elegant southern lady with a sparkling, positive personality, was always smiling and finding a reason to laugh. She was a shining light loved by all who met her. Betty Jo was a member of Grace Methodist and Stevens Creek Church.
The funeral service will be held at Stevens Creek Church on Monday, July 10, 2023. Family visitation will be at 1:00 p.m., and the service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Dr. Marty Baker will officiate.
Contributions can be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and Stevens Creek Church, Augusta Georgia. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Augusta Gardens Senior Community for the love and care they gave Betty Jo during her time there.
