Evans, GA – LTG (R) Robert E. Gray, U.S. Army, age 70, beloved husband of Mrs. Annie Gray, entered into rest on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Jenkins County Hospital.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Augusta Chapel from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM, with a Service of Remembrance at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Chaplain Craig N. Wiley officiating. Graveside services will be at Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday,February 1, 2012.

A native of Algoma, WV, General Gray was born on 18 October 1941. He graduated from Elkhorn High School in Elkhorn WV 1959 and enlisted in the US Army in 1961. He graduated from Officer Candidate School at Fort Gordon, GA in 1966 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. After 38 years of service to his country General Gray retired, as Deputy Commander In Chief, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army in 1997 and he chose to make Augusta his home. The 70 year old was a graduate of "The" Ohio State University. He held a Masters of Military Arts and Sciences Degree from the United States Army Command and General Staff College. He is a graduate of the National Security Seminar at Harvard University and earned numerous awards and decorations. General Gray served on numerous national, local boards and commissions and was also a member of several civic and social organizations here in Augusta. He was President and CEO of Gray Consultants Incorporated. He fostered a global network of loved ones and friends stretching from Alabama to Zimbabwe and everywhere in between.

Additional survivors include his mother, Mrs. Hattie B. Gray; one son, Parker Gray (Michelle) of Peachtree City, GA; two daughters, Frances D. Gray-Head (Mark) of Atlanta, GA, Edith D. Gray-Negahban (Andre) of Waterford, CT; one brother, Lloyd Gray, Jr. of Columbus, OH; two sisters, Gladys Forquer and Geraldine Hancock both of Columbus, OH; and seven grandchildren.

Active pallbearers will be the United States Army Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be the Active and Retired General Officers and Active and Retired Military Personnel that General Gray mentored.
