Anna Cleo Carney, Martinez, Georgia, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother went to her peaceful, heavenly home to be reunited with the love of her life on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.
Anna is survived by her four children: Donna Thorpe (Donald), Pamela Jean Hardin, Gary Ray Carney (Robin), and Dr. Jeffrey Lynn Carney (Beth). She is also survived by her grandchildren whom she cherished: Jason Bradley Thorpe (Ashley), Kristy Ann Reece, Jeffrey Warren Carney, and Emory Martin Carney.
Anna was born in Spring City, Tennessee on November 13, 1932. Her parents were the late Jennie Carden Mincy and J. C. Mincy. Anna graduated from Spring City High School as the class Salutatorian. Soon after graduation, the plant manager of the local silk mill visited her parent’s home and personally offered Anna her first job as an accountant at the mill. She always excelled with numbers and accounting. She loved working on her computer well up into her 80’s. She met the love of her life, the late CSM Alfred Ray Carney, in Spring City, Tennessee and they married in December 1953. Military life took them to Hawaii, Alabama, Georgia, Virginia, and Germany before retiring in Martinez, GA. Anna thoroughly enjoyed being a loyal and dedicated Army wife and getting to travel worldwide.
When the family was stationed in Gelnhausen, Germany, Anna became an avid collector of Hummel figurines in which she took great pride. Also, once stateside, she became a prolific collector of Beanie Babies during the 1980’s. Whenever she found the latest model, she usually would buy four of them-one for each grandchild. Well into her 70’s and 80’s, she was a devoted walker and proudly could outwalk her grown children-any time any place. Anna loved Kentucky Fried Chicken, homemade cornbread and baking her famous Christmas jelly cookies for her family.
Above all else, Anna valued family and hosting gatherings for her children and grandchildren during the holidays. Anna deeply loved and spoiled her four grandchildren. “Granny” always enjoyed going to their school events, musicals, athletic games, and hosting the family for Thanksgiving and Christmas at her home.
Heartfelt thanks are extended to the dedicated staff members at Camellia Walk Assisted Living, Sodalis Assisted Living, and Helping Hands Hospice. Also, she was grateful for the wonderful care she always received at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center over the last four decades.
