Zandra Renee Gaines

Ms. Zandra Renee Gaines, age 47, passed with peace and grace with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, June 15, 2021.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at Platt’s Funeral Home, Belair Road Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. George C. Miller III officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the time of service.

Zandra, an Augusta native, was a Title 1 bookkeeper with the Richmond County Board of Education with over a decade of dedicated service. After graduating from Westside High School, she enlisted in the United States Army where she served until 2001. After her time in the service, Zandra attended Augusta Technical College and earned a degree in accounting. She was baptized at Elim Baptist Church where she served with a dedication and passion that displayed her love of our Lord and Savior and her church.

She is survived by the one dearest to her heart, her son, Leo Holland, her parents, Bernard Gaines, Sr. and Danita Thomas, a sister, Shanta Thomas, her brothers, Derrick Thomas, Rico Brandon, Aaron Gaines, Bernard Gaines, Jr., Michael Gaines and Antoine Harris; her best friends, Portia Cook and Paula Palmer along with her church family siblings, Linda Winfrey, Jerry Stephens and Michelle Jones. Zandra also leaves to mourn her passing numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, church members and coworkers. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jeanette Stanley, Lenon and Betty Gaines and her aunt, Teresa Dent.

Although Zandra is no longer physically with us, her spirit lives on through the memories, the love, and the times shared. She will forever be remembered for the strength and courage that she displayed during her battle with cancer. Her faithfulness and fight to live will be an inspiration to many with whom her journey is shared.
