William D. Nelson

September 23, 1925 — November 4, 2020

Mr. William D. Nelson 95, entered into rest on Wednesday, November 4, 2020. He was the loving husband of 45 years to the late Geri Nelson.

There will be a graveside service in Vermont, IL that will be announced at a later date.

Born in Vermont Illinois, William enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 and served during World War II on the USS Corregidor. Following his service in the Navy William attended Washington State University, graduating in 1950. He went on to work for the US Forestry Service as a Silviculturist, working in several locations in the west, before settling in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest where he retired in 1984. He was a deacon at Warren Baptist Church and a member of the Wren/Dewitt/Daniel Sunday school class. He faithfully and joyfully greeted at Warren Baptist Church until March of this year and was one of the two oldest members of the church.

He is survived by his stepchildren, David Parker (Karen), Terry McBride (Bill) and Janet Young (Rodney), his grandchildren, Jennifer Godwin, Jason Parker, Billy McBride, Amanda Madrid, Austin Nicole Lorenzo and Travis Young as well as his great grandchildren, Nathan, Lucas, Jordan, Dakota, Sofie, Landon, Caitlyn, Liam, Max, Benjamin, Evie, Lacey, Silas and Adaline. He is preceded in death by his parents Dana and Stella Nelson and his sisters Lorena Rankin and Merrilee Collier.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be the Warren Baptist Church Benevolent Fund, in honor of the Wren/Dewitt/Daniel Sunday School class, 3203 Washington Road, Augusta, Ga., 30907.
