Ted Martin Tidwell Sr.

June 16, 1932 — July 6, 2022

Mr. Ted M. Tidwell, Sr., age 90, entered into rest on Wednesday, July 6, 2022.
Ted was a native of North Augusta, SC. He is the son of the late George W. and Maitland Martin Tidwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth R. Tidwell. Survivors include a son Ted Martin Tidwell, Jr., a daughter Tracie Tidwell Amrhein (Ken), Three grandchildren Heather Tidwell Denittis (Dave), Ben Barton, and Mattie Barton. Two great grandchildren George Denittis and Anthony Denittis.
He was a retired Printer and Sportsman. He attended Augusta College and was a second generation printer with Tidwell Printing and Design which was founded in 1923 by his father. Tidwell was the first printer in Augusta to offer four color process and in-house graphic design services. The company won numerous awards for print excellence and graphic design. Ted worked to improve the scoring control system for the Masters Golf Tournament during the seventies with his “Magna-score” invention. It was used in the pre-computer days for 10 years. He also served for 24 years on the Boshears Memorial Fly-in and Skyfest committee. His passion was racing. Ted was a champion power boat racer (Hydroplanes) 1951 – 1957. Won five high point championships and 40 events during a six year span. In 1958 he began racing sports cars becoming the first “six-time overall winner” in the famous North Carolina Chimney Rock Hill Climb. With 22 hill climbs under his belt, he earned the title “King of the Hill”. He also drove in the Daytona 2000 K race and the Sebring 12 hour endurance race in Porsche race cars, his favorite. The Augusta International Speedway Preservation Society recognized him with a street named for him in Augusta, GA. Ted was a loving father, grandfather, and friend. He loved people and had an engaging personality and sense of humor that kept you laughing at all times, even in his final days. Always ready with a good joke or story from the “good ole days”.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, July 12, 2022 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Augusta Dream Center or Stevens Creek Church in Augusta GA.
