Steven Lamar Bonner

Steven Bonner was called home on December 24, 2023, after a long illness. Born in Carrollton, Georgia, on October 13, 1948, Steven moved to Augusta with his family as a young boy for his father’s barbering career. He had a great admiration for the Armed Forces and had the opportunity to serve his country during the Vietnam War.

Steven was affectionately known as Pretty Steve and was a renaissance man who loved cars, golf, music, family, his community, and the Lord. Songs from across the decades could be heard playing at all hours of the day, and there was always ice cream in the freezer. Steven was a gifted storyteller, caring friend, and consummate life of the party who never met a stranger and who gave his heart fully to the people that surrounded him.

Steven was a daredevil who rode coupes and motorcycles until his last years, and he was always up for a challenge. His biggest feat was taking on and surviving Stage IV melanoma, despite all odds. He believed in the power of prayer and fought hard through the medical ailments that plagued him throughout his adult life. Although he is no longer fighting on this earth, his family is at peace knowing that his body is healed.

He is survived by his wife and partner of 46 years, Claudia Stovall; daughter, Katherine; dog, Jack; cat, Birdie; sister, Brenda Newsome (Reggie); and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie (Silvey) and Duma.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, December 30th, from 11am to 1pm at Platt’s Funeral Home, and the funeral service will begin at 1pm in the Platt’s Chapel. Pallbearers will be Steven Broome, Chris Connor, Reid Davis, Linwood Pearl, Paul Querze, Steve Rayle, David Silvey, and Greg Sparrow. Interment will follow at Schucraft Cemetery in Appling, GA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Steven’s name to Kiokee Baptist Church and Wounded Warrior Project. His family appreciates your prayers, thoughts, and support during this difficult time.
