Stanford Wright

August 5, 1941 — August 1, 2021

Stan Wright, age 79, entered into rest on Sunday, August 1, 2021 following an extended and courageous battle with complications of agent orange exposure.

Stan was born in Bland, Virginia to the late Wiliam Olney Wright and Ollie Mae Falls Wright. Serving 20 years in the United States Army, his career included tours in Korea, Vietnam, and Germany. Following retirement as an SFC, Stan was an instructor with the federal government until his health began rapidly declining. Stan had a great love for vintage cars (specifically Mustangs), coin collections, and pocket knives. He was known at the Highway 56 Flea Market as the “Knife Man” where people came from all over to enjoy Stan’s friendship while he sharpened their knives. Stan never met a stranger and could talk to anyone about anything. He had a unique sense of humor and a certain way with words. The world was certainly a better place with Stan living in it.

In addition to his parents, Stan was preceded in death by his best friend, Sammy Price.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Connie Waters Wright; two daughters, Terry Wright Kent (Eric) of Appling and Susan Gail Wright Byrd (Trevor) of Evans; five grandchildren, Tim Patch (Erin), Sonja McLester (Lawrence), Sean Cudd (Ciara), Matthew Hartley (Chelsea), and Havin Frashuer; four great grandchildren, Rylan McLester, Ashlynn McLester, Blakely Hartley, and Alden Patch; close friends, George Boatwright and Coley Irby; and Sammy’s daughters and Stan’s lifelong friends, Sharon Price, Cyndi Price, and Melissa Mason. He is also survived by his faithful canine companion and snuggle buddy, Jessie.

Stan’s life and service will be celebrated by his family in a private gathering.
