Sara "Sally" Bennett Miller

February 9, 1944 — January 31, 2021

Sara “Sally” Bennett Miller, age 76, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021 while under the exemplary care of SouthEast Hospice. She was surrounded by her loving family as she entered into eternal rest.

Sally was born in Newberry, South Carolina to the late Oliver Leonard Bennett and Fannie Thain Newberry Bennett. The daughter of a traveling salesman, she and her family moved around the Carolinas and Georgia, eventually settling in Laurinburg, NC. Sally would go on to receive a BA in Economics and Finance from the University of North Carolina, and was the first in her family to graduate from college. While working at her first post-graduate job in the Marketing department of The Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta she met another traveling career man—a financial auditor by the name of Gene Miller—and quickly swept him off his feet. They married in 1968 and had two children. Their mutual love for travel and adventure led them to move their young family to Italy when Gene was offered an overseas career opportunity. Her intelligence, self-confidence and independence served her well there as she raised two small children while Gene traveled for work—she learned the language and developed a love for the people, the food and the culture. Ever the consummate "Carolina Girl", Sally was gentle, polite, and quick-witted, and loved the beach—especially Hilton Head Island—shag dancing, boating, swimming, and seafood. She could often be found with her nose in a book and enjoyed reading anything she could get her hands on. Sally will be remembered as a devoted matriarch and the rock of their family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Oliver Bennett; and nephew, Leonard Bennett.

Sally is survived by her husband of nearly 53 years, Gene Miller of Evans; two children, Paige Rivera (José) of Evans and Josh Miller (Heather) of Marietta; and ‘sister-in-love,’ Gayle Bennett of Hartwell. Her greatest love and accomplishment was to be the “Nonna” to her three grandsons, Sebastian Rivera, Nicholas Rivera, and Heath Miller.

Sally’s life will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Platt’s Belair Road on what would have been her 77th birthday and her 53rd wedding anniversary with Gene. Chaplain Christie McTier will officiate. Interment will be private. The family will greet friends following the service. The service will be live streamed at, https://www.facebook.com/plattsfuneralhome/.
