Ruth P. Scoggins

Ruth P. Scoggins, 86, of Martinez, Georgia, passed away on January 13, 2022 in Augusta, Ga.

Ruth was born in Atlanta, Ga to Arthur F. and Amelia B. Powell on August 14, 1935. She married William R. Scoggins, Sr on April 20, 1953 in Aiken, SC.

She began her career at Savannah River Plant in the clerical and lab departments in 1954. She owned and operated her own construction business, Scoggins-Tweedy Construction in 1973. She worked as a Realtor for Crowell, Remax and Blanchard & Calhoun for 40 years. She was in the Million Dollar Sales Club at Blanchard & Calhoun.

She was a former member of St Paul's Episcopal Church choir and the Augusta Opera Company. She sang in many productions including Bizet's Carmen and Puccini's Tosca.

Ruth is preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Carol Scoggins; beloved son, Stephen T. Scoggins; three brothers, Arthur Powell, Robert Reid and Joseph Reid.

Ruth is survived by her oldest son, William R. Scoggins, Jr; two granddaughters, Stephanie R. Scoggins and Hannah S. Tanksley; one grandson, Dylan M Scoggins; two great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Kelly Tanksley; sister, Elizabeth Cripe; brother, Samuel Reid and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind four grand dogs. She leaves behind a host of friends she made while been cared for by Remain at Home Senior services.

Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice in Ruth’s honor.

Memorial services will be held 7-9pm on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Platt's Funeral Home Evans, Ga with the Deacon Kathleen O. Cartledge of St. Paul's Lutheran Church Aiken SC, officiating. The Scoggins family kindly requests that masks be worn while in attendance.
