Augusta, GA---Mr. Robert Eugene Stafford, 81, entered into rest on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at his residence.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 27, 2008 at 3:30 pm, at Lakemont Presbyterian Church, 1000 Bluebird Drive, with Reverend Jack Jagoditch officiating.
Private graveside services and interment will be held on Friday morning, in Vidette, GA.

Mr. Stafford was a native and lifelong resident of Augusta. He was a graduate of Richmond Academy and Augusta College. During World War II, he served with Underwater Demolition Teams, in the U. S. Navy. In 1946, he was a member of UDT 4 which accompanied Admiral Richard Byrd, to Antarctica as part of Operation Highjump.

Mr. Stafford was employed with Georgia Railroad Bank for 21 years and retired from the Medical College of Georgia. He was a member of Lakemont Presbyterian Church, the John Tabb Sunday School Class and the Keenagers.

Mr. Stafford was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James J. Stafford, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Miriam A. Stafford, of Augusta, daughters, Melinda Weidenaar and husband Tom, of Evans, GA and Tina Marie Stafford, of Augusta, his brother, Norman W. Stafford, Sr. and wife Annette, of Augusta, grandchildren, Christina Hare and husband, Zach, Lindsey Weidenaar and Mark Weidenaar, great granddaughter, Ashlynn Hare and special cousin, Peggy Alewine.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 26, 2008, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Platt’s Crawford Avenue.
