Richard Felder

October 20, 1947 — June 28, 2020

Richard Felder, age 72 entered into rest on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at his residence following a year-long battle with mesothelioma (lung cancer).

Richard was born in Augusta to the late James C. “Jimmy” Felder, Jr. and Erlyn Felder, he was a 1966 graduate of Butler High School and was active with the alumni group.

Richard was an accomplished businessman and won multiple awards during his over 30 years in the insurance business. At the time of his retirement he was the owner of a successful Allstate agency located on Belair Road. Richard was a 17 year member of BNI chapter Noontime Networkers and enjoyed the weekly connections he made with other local business owners.

Richard was an avid golfer and spent many of his weekends on the golf course. Richard was proud to have served 26 years as a volunteer with the Masters Tournament. He was a member of the USGA, Bartram Trail, and a charter member of Goshen Plantation. He also oversaw the former Cone Open tournament for the past 10 years. The family would like to thank the Bartram Trail Men’s Golf Association for their continued prayers and constant support during Richard’s illness. In his younger years, Richard also loved to play baseball and softball. He was awarded a college scholarship to play baseball for Brewton Parker College. He also played church softball and enjoyed winning several regional championships with various teams.

Richard was a kind and generous man who never met a stranger and always spoke his mind. He was often known for sharing jokes and bringing humor to any situation. He was also a proud man who was willing to give advice, help others in need and was always loyal to those he loved and called a friend. Due to his love for people he rarely went anywhere in Augusta without knowing someone.

While he loved his career, golf, and others his greatest love was for his family. Richard was a devoted husband and loving father and is survived by his loving wife of more than 45 years, Carol Hamm Felder; three children, James “Jamie” Felder, Jr. (Julie) of Evans, Laura Mullis (Todd) of Moultrie, and Margaret “Maggie” Corley (Jamie) of Evans; and brother, Wayne Felder (Raye) of Fort Mill, South Carolina.

Out of all the trophies and accolades he was awarded, there was no prouder moment in his life than when he was promoted to “Pop” as he was loved and adored by his six surviving grandchildren, Morgan Drew, Parker Drew, Gracie Drew, Bellamy Felder, Jamie Corley and Sawyer Corley.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the ladies at Regency Hospice for their support and care during Richard’s last months. The family would also like to express gratitude to Reverend Jimmy Napier and Diane and Roger Tant for offering Richard continued prayers and spiritual guidance.
