Michael "Mike" Larry Dickerson

May 28, 1947 — October 11, 2023

Evans GA -

Mr. Michael Larry "Mike" Dickerson, 76 , entered into rest on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Doctor's Hospital. Mike was the husband of Jeanne Daley Dickerson for almost 53 years. Mike and Jeanne would have celebrated their 53rd anniversary on October 22, 2023.

In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by his only daughter Angie Dickerson and his grandpoochie Annie. Other survivors include a niece Katelyn (Allan) Davis and special sons Oakley and Coleman Davis, A niece Inthia (Steve) Fanning and one nephew Rick Hawkins. And numerous close friends.

Mike was born in Augusta, Georgia to the late H.L. and Dot Dickerson. Mike was also proceeded in death by his only brother, Ed Dickerson. Mike was a George P. Butler High School Graduate - Class of 1966. He served his nation in Vietnam in 1968-69 as a member of the 319th Transportation Company Activated US Army Reserve - AKA Troxler's Truckers.

Mike was a 5 ton cargo truck driver and alternatively drove the convoy command jeep and was machine gunner for it.

For more than 50 years Mike served as a member of the 319th Vietnam Veterans Committee, at least twice being its Chairman. Mike was a leader on many Armed Forces Days for feeding the Ft. Gordon soldiers at Thunder Over Evans. The 319th TC was responsible for having the Roy Waldo Miller, Jr. US Army Reserve Center on Wrightsboro Rd. named for its only casualty. The 319th TC was awarded All-Time Hall of Fame status with the Army Transportation Corps - the only Reserve Unit to ever achieve this. Mike was a Distinguished Member of the 319th. With Habitat for Humanity and the Augusta Warrior Project, the 319th RV Vets under Mike's and John Bowen's leadership raised funds for a wounded Afghanistan Veteran to receive a hand up on a house equipped to meet his needs. The 319th even welcomed Gary Sinise to town as part of its efforts.

Mike also served on the committee that created the CSRA Vietnam Memorial Wall on Broad St. in Augusta, GA. He was proud of his service in combat and his service to the Augusta Community along with his comrades who will miss him and his sense of humor very badly. He retired after a 35 year career as a train engineer with Georgia Railroad (now CSX

Railroad.) He was a member and past officer of the United Transportation Union and a Representative of All Engineers. He also became Social Chairman of the United Transportation Union. Mike also worked as an investigator with the James Holland Law Firm. Mike was a member of VFW Post 12190.

Many thanks to Sandy Herring and Florilee Jowers for their help and support. And especially to Sue and Tim Campbell for their care of Mike and being at Mike's bedside as he passed with Sue's phone to his ear as his beloved Jeanne said good bye from her own Piedmont Hospital bed.

This obituary would be remiss in its content if it did not mention the love and care Angie gave to her Father and Mother during their illnesses until Angie herself was quarantined at home sick with Covid while both parents were hospitalized in two different hospitals. Angie continues to help Jeanne through her recovery from her illness and the loss of Mike. What a blessing Angie is. She is a daughter to be proud of and an absolute crown jewel. You can hear Mike say, "Daughter, you done good!"

It was a great privilege to have been called "My Friend" by Mike. Never a better man than Mike to have your back. Mike truly loved his family and friends.

Memorials may be given to:

St. Judes Children's Research Hospital; SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare, 199 Willow Run Rd., Aiken, SC 29801; or any no-kill animal shelter of your choice.

A private memorial service will be planned for a later date.
