Margaret Ann Clark

June 15, 1926 — August 9, 2023

Margaret Ann Clark, wife of the late Herman E. Clark, entered into eternal rest on August 9, 2023 at home surrounded by her family. She was 97 years old. Margaret was born in Augusta on June 15, 1926. She was the daughter of Mildred and C.J. Netherland. She grew up in Frog Hollow and attended Lawton B. Evans Elementary.

In 1944 Margaret became the wife of Herman E. Clark, a young Navy sailor. Herman was often out at sea and Margaret remained at home with the children in Jacksonville, Florida. The family returned to Augusta in 1966 and became active in Christ Episcopal Church and later on at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

In 1975, at the age of 50, she returned to school and completed her LPN which had been her lifelong dream. Much of Margaret's nursing career was spent caring for dialysis patients. When she saw the needs of her patients that went beyond the scope of their medical needs, she decided to begin a project to help. She began a project of collecting food for them and their families during the holiday season. With the help of area churches and other civic organizations, these special baskets were prepared and distributed to those in need. She was able to maintain this project for a number of years and this brought her great joy. She was a lady who did so much for so many.

Margaret was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was very instrumental in the upbringing of her grandchildren. She especially loved the beach trips with her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandson.

She is survived by her son, Michael Clark (Julie) of Virginia, daughter Kathy Claxton of Augusta; three grandchildren, Keelyn Sleeper (Mike), Daniel Clark and Matthew Clark; and three great-grandchildren, Evan Cunningham, Layla Clark, and River Gracey.

Visitation will be held at Platt's Funeral Home on Crawford Avenue Sunday August 13th at 5-7pm.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Phyllis Hartfield who truly was a gift from God and a part of the family for 30 years.

The family would like to express much appreciation to Pam Wilkins and Helen Hall, Margaret's hairdressers. Each year they gave Margaret a birthday celebration with all the things that made it special and memorable. And a special thanks to Lora Pitts for the best nail services. Also many thanks to Glenda Andrews, a dear friend who, with her special touch, provided much Christmas cheer each year. Renew, MD, and Crescent Hospice for all the support provided to the family in the final days.
