Katherine Eva Bolton Williams

Katherine Eva Bolton Williams, 95, of Evans, Georgia, passed away on April 26, 2024, in Augusta, Georgia.

She was born to Edna Anderson Bolton and Colin E. Bolton in Knoxville, Tennessee, on February 5, 1929. Growing up with three sisters – Louise, Bea, and Ann -  Kathy  enjoyed singing in her church choir, hiking in the Smoky Mountains, and being in her church youth group.  After graduating from high school, Kathy attended classes at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

She attended McCalla Avenue Baptist Church where she met James Earl Williams, the love of her life. Kathy and Earl were married on March 18, 1950. They had three children together: Karen, Diane, and Jimmy. Her husband, Earl, died on January 18, 2024. They celebrated 73 years of married love and friendship together.

During their marriage, they moved to different states including Tennessee, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Georgia, as Earl pursued his career as a dentist and dental professor in community dentistry.

After moving to Evans, Georgia, they became very active members of First Baptist Church, Evans. Kathy sang in the adult choir, worked in the children’s program, and planted a yearly church garden. Kathy served as the first woman deacon in her church.

She loved working with children and led a Christmas Gingerbread House Workshop every year; planned and led the children’s program every summer – including Terrific Tuesday outings; and special programs such as magic shows, unusual children’s dinners, and fall festivals.  Generations of children benefited from her energy and love.

Kathy was an artist and creative person. She painted oil landscapes in her earlier years, and arts and crafts in her later years.

Every summer, the family made beach trips to North Carolina beaches  or to Hilton Head, where they swam, rode bikes on the pathways and beach, walked on the pier, and ate hushpuppies and seafood. On yearly trips to Townsend, Tennessee, they hiked the Smoky Mountain trails including going up to Mt. Le Conte, climbing Alum Cave Bluff, Clingman’s Dome,  Rainbow Falls, and many other trails.

Kathy also enjoyed reading, playing board games, working on puzzles, and gardening.

Kathy had a beautiful soprano voice. She and her husband, Earl – a bass - helped to found the Columbia County Choral Society in 1997.

Kathy loved her family: Karen and Ron Blackburn, Diane and Peter Erbland, and Jim Williams. Everyone was welcome at her home.  Her grandchildren are Andrew Erbland, Dan Erbland, Colin Blackburn, Ian Blackburn, Amy Neville, David Williams, and Jennifer Williams Mallette. Great grandchildren include Emmitt Erbland, Miller Erbland, and Hartley Williams.

It can be said of Kathy Williams: “Her children arise and call her blessed, her husband also, and he praises her: Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Proverbs 31:28-31
