John L. Till

John LeRoy Till Jr, 75, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness, Monday June 22, 2020 in Augusta, Georgia at University Hospital.
John was born July 13, 1944 in Orangeburg, SC to the late John LeRoy Till Sr and Eunice Elizabeth Clark Till of Orangeburg, SC. He was a graduate of Orangeburg High School, and a member of the Four Holes Baptist Church. He served in the South Carolina National Guard for six years after he graduated high school.
John enjoyed being at the beach, outdoor activities, cruises, attending auctions, road trips, gardening, old beach music, and looking for his new future home that was not in Augusta, GA. He was a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation and Ducks Unlimited. He had a vast knowledge over many areas (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, farming, etc) that he used to help friends and family. He also had a great love for antiques and collectables.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Alice Heath Till; one daughter, Kimberly E. Till Thornton and her husband Jeff Thornton of Appling, GA; sisters Alice Till Durgin of Orangeburg, SC, and Elizabeth (Betty) Till of Hodges, SC, and a number of nephews and cousins.
John spent most of his adult life in Augusta, GA where he was self-employed. He was a wonderful husband and loving father. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and he was a great storyteller. His laugh was enjoyed by all. He was willing to help anyone in need. His Christian values were seen every day in his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of John L. Till Jr, to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607-1460.
The memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, October 9, 2021, at Platt’s Funeral Home Chapel, 337 North Belair Road, Evans, GA with the Rev. Jerry Sharpe of Green’s Cut United Methodist Church officiating. A reception for friends and family will be held afterward at 2346 Louisville Road, Appling, GA following the service.
