John Brady

September 4, 1940 — September 24, 2022

John Edward Brady, born on September 4th, 1940 in Kingston, New York passed away on September 24th, 2022 in Augusta, Georgia.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth Feeney and Owen Francis Brady, and his sister Kathleen Schmidt.

Survivors include his wife and best friend, Beth Brady of Augusta,GA and their children Sean and Theresa Brady of Portland, Oregon as well as his loving brother Robert Brady and family of State College, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by two children from his first marriage, Mary Brady Lagrada and Andrew Brady.

John had an adventurous spirit when it came to both travel and food and loved to share both with his family and friends, particularly Beth. They lived in many different places and visited even more although their favorite trips were vacations to Jamaica. He also had an eclectic collection of professions. John was director of nursing for many years before managing healthcare in prisons with a short stint as hotel manager in-between. He eventually became Director of Augusta YDC, from which he retired. Even after retiring, however, he kept his nursing license active and continued to work as a PRN at the Lighthouse Care Center of Augusta until the age of 80.

John had a passion for helping others, especially young adults and teens. He was involved in the Catholic church, Kiwanis Club, and Youth Challenge among many organizations. He cared deeply for those around him and was always trying to make someone’s day better. He was a stubborn, funny, and altruistic man and we will miss him dearly.

John was cremated at Platt’s Funeral Home in Evans, GA and his ashes will rest with his wife. Memorial plans have been put off to a later date. In lieu of contributions to the family, please donate to your local youth organization or charity.

The family of John wishes to extend our genuine appreciation to Dr. Greg Simpson, his partner and nurse Leah and Dr. Sean Lynch for being not only good caretakers but wonderful friends to him. We would also like to thank all of his special friends that came to his aide many times over the years.
