James Samuel Jackson Goans

February 19, 1981 — September 7, 2021

Mr. James Samuel Jackson Goans, 40, beloved husband of Rebecca Skelly Goans, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.

In addition to his wife, Rebecca, he is survived by his children, James Samuel Jackson II, Cameron David Clark, Magnolia Gail and Ellory Louise; his brother, Randy Shirley (Lisa); his sister, Sheena Goans Cruse (Shaun); his nephew, Zachary Shirley (Megan); his nieces, Zoe Clark and Savannah Goans, along with many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Richard and Connie Gail Goans.

James was born in Goldsboro, NC and graduated from Mooresville (NC) High School after a happy childhood moving around as an “Air Force kid”. After graduation, he served as a Sheriff's Deputy before pursuing a career in the nuclear industry. He met the love of his life, Rebecca, in 2007 and married her in 2009. He was a hard worker, a country boy at heart, a believer in Jesus Christ, and a loyal friend who genuinely cared for those around him.

James loved to learn (which might be a surprise to those who knew him in high school) and was constantly reading, listening, and watching in order to better himself and those around him. He worked extremely hard to provide well for his family and he was highly respected in the nuclear industry and beyond. At the time of his death, James was the Vice President of Quality, Compliance, Safety, and Improvement for Williams Industrial Services Group. He spent the majority of the last 10 years working on the new project at Plant Vogtle.

As hard as he worked in his career, his favorite job and title was Daddy. His family was his pride and joy, and he loved them dearly and deeply. As chaotic as two sets of twins can be, he was an incredible dad and was always ready to wrestle with them, to teach them about the things he loved, and to remind them that they were special to him and had changed his world.

Those that knew him can attest to his wit, his knack for storytelling, and his adventurous spirit. He was always up for a debate on politics, sports, theology, or BBQ. He loved sports, especially the Georgia Bulldogs, the Carolina Panthers, and wrestling (he dreamed about his boys following in his footsteps). He was an entrepreneur and was always seeking a new investment or hobby. He loved to travel, had visited all 50 states, and looked forward to many more adventures.

There are not enough words to describe James and all that he meant to those around him. The legacy of his love and life will live on through his wife and children, and he will be greatly missed by family, friends, and all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Cedar Creek Church in Aiken, SC.
