Isabelle Robertson Maxwell

April 21, 1928 — October 13, 2023

Isabelle Robertson Maxwell, 95, loving wife of the late Vaughn L. Maxwell, Jr., entered into rest on October 13, 2023. A graveside service will be held at Westover Memorial Park on October 19, 2023 at 11:00 with the Reverend Dr. Eric Biddy of Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church officiating. A celebration of life with family and friends will held at the Wallace House (Augusta Country Club) following the graveside service.


Isabelle was born April 21, 1928 in New Orleans, LA to the late Isabella Asserson Robertson and the late James Lawrence Robertson of Augusta, GA. Isabelle lived in Augusta most of her life and graduated from William Robinson Elementary School. During World War II, her father was called back into service in the U.S. Navy as supervisor of ship building (PT Boats and Sub Chasers) in Jacksonville, FL. There she had the honor of christening Sub Chaser 696 and also attended Landon High School in Jacksonville, FL.


Isabelle and her parents moved back to Augusta in 1944 where she graduated from Tubman High School in 1945. She then attended Junior College at Richmond Academy (now Augusta State University) her Freshman year and then transferred to and graduated from Converse College in 1949. Afterwards she graduated from Hurst Business School in Augusta and worked as secretary for the Kiwanis Club and then as collection teller at the Citizens and Southern National Bank on Broad Street.


Isabelle and Vaughn were married at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Augusta in 1960 and moved to Houston, Texas for two years where Vaughn opened a sales office for Menardi Southern, Inc., and two of their children were born in Houston, TX. The family moved back to Augusta in 1962 and their third child was born in Augusta in 1968. Isabelle and Vaughn were married for 56 years before his passing in 2016.


Isabelle was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church , a volunteer for the Soup Kitchen, the Downtown Cooperative Church Ministries, and Meals on Wheels. She was a member of the Augusta Country Club, The Augusta Assembly, Sundial Garden Club, Junior League of Augusta, Colonial Dames in the State of Georgia and Augusta Heritage Club. Isabelle loved playing bridge with her friends and eventually became a life master in bridge. Isabelle had a wonderful sense of humor with great love for her family and friends.


Isabelle is survived by her three children: Isabelle Maxwell Croft (Chuck) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Vaughn L. Maxwell, III (Marianne) of North Augusta, SC; and Margaret Maxwell Boilini (Dr. Henry) of Orlando, FL; and her grandchildren: James Maxwell Croft, John Willson Croft, Hayden Michael Boilini, Andrew Maxwell Boilini and Isabella Alexis Boilini; her niece Jennifer Roberston Norback and great nephew Avery Norback; her sister-in-law and good friend Barbara Cunningham and several nieces and nephews and cousins.


Isabelle was proceeded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. James L. Robertson; her husband, Vaughn L. Maxwell, Jr. and her brother, James L. Roberston, Jr.


The family would like to express extreme gratitude and thanks to Brookdale of Augusta for providing comfort, care and friendship to Mom for the last five years of her life and to Pruitt Health – Richmond (formerly Kentwood) for providing care and comfort during her last weeks. Additionally the family would like to thank Hospice Services of Georgia and Regency SouthernCare Hospice along with Beckey Smith (Mosley Comfort Care) and Leon Lewis for providing caring sitter services.
