Dr. William “Bill” Arthur Speir, Jr.

Academic and revered physician Dr. William Arthur Speir, Jr. passed away on February 22, 2022, at the age of 82, in Augusta, Georgia. His love of knowledge and family did not come to an end with his death.

Bill completed his Bachelors degree at University of Georgia and his Medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia, where he specialized in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care for a career spanning nearly four decades. Bill truly loved teaching and instilling the importance of compassionate care in his students.

Outside of medicine, Bill was passionate about writing, art, music, Southern heritage, family and friends, dogs, and dabbled in the occasional chili cook-off. Bill touched the lives of many and will always be remembered for his quick wit, commanding presence, and a Latin quote for every occasion.

Bill is now at peace with his beloved wife, Mary, who passed in January 2021. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and all who knew him.
