Dorothy Mae Jacobson

August 16, 1923 — March 11, 2021

Dorothy Mae Jacobson, beloved wife of the late Einar Jacobson Jr. (Jake), entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 11, 2021 surrounded by her daughters.
Deeply loved by her family and friends, she will forever be a reminder of courage, strength, grace and Southern style. Dorothy Mae, a native of Lebanon, KY, was born August 16, 1923. She was the youngest and sole survivor of ten brothers and sisters.
After attending St. Helena’s Business College she worked in Civil Service where she met the love of her life, Jake. In 1946, they married and later moved to Augusta, GA (1956) to be close to a city which celebrated Jake’s passion for golf. Dorothy Mae loved her life in Augusta making the most of her friendships while raising their families in Country Club Hills. Her favorite things in life were Saturday nights dancing to Big Band music at the Augusta Country Club, playing bridge, socializing with friends and neighbors, especially those known as “The Biddie Committee.” She was “GaGa” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were her pride and joy.
Dorothy Mae was a devout member of St. Mary’s on the Hill Catholic Church, The Irish American Heritage Society, the Augusta Country Club and the Camellia Garden Club having served as past president. She enjoyed her work as a volunteer Pink Lady at the former St. Joseph’s Hospital and as an Administrative Assistant for Easter Seals.
Dorothy Mae was predeceased by her husband Jake and her son, Mark Jacobson. She is survived by her three daughters Carol Fuller (Tommy) of Augusta, Marty Ellison (Greg) of Augusta, Cathy Mericka (Keith) of Santa Rosa Beach, FL and daughter-in-law Roberta Jacobson of Augusta. She is also survived by grandchildren, Ben Fuller (Alicia), Neil Fuller (Kristi), Dr. Taylor Ellison, Leigh Ellison, Sarah Balk (Ian), Catherine Mericka and William Mericka II and great grandchildren, Lily and Maggie Fuller, Ansley and Davis Fuller.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dorothy’s caregivers Mary, Henrietta, Sherry, Priscilla, Kris, Katherine, Thelma, Peggy, and Carmen and to Trinity Hospice of Augusta. The compassion and devotion in their care brought great comfort to Dorothy in her final years.
