Doris Gaines Hughes

January 9, 1928 — April 4, 2024

Mrs. Doris Hughes, 96, wife of the late Walter “Walt” Thomas Hughes Jr., entered into rest on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at her residence.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 8, 2024 at Westover Memorial Park with the Rev. Steve Jones officiating. The family will remain at the graveside for a brief time after the service to greet friends. 

Mrs. Hughes was born in Tampa, Florida to the late T.A. and Josephine Gaines. She was the former owner of Aunt Sissy’s Antiques.

She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Hughes Ellis (Mike) and Melanie Hughes Arrington, her grandchildren, Louis Tjovaras, Troy Tjovaras, Nickie Reese, Chad Ellis, Brad Ellis, Ainsley Corley, Moriah Middlesteadt, Aimee Hughes, Thomas Hughes IV, Mary Grace Hughes and Benjamin Hughes, in addition to 17 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Tom Gaines, a sister, Patricia Smith, and her niece and “bonus baby”, Josie Morris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walt, and her son, Walter “Buddy” Thomas Hughes III.
