Carolyn Gardner Tadlock

November 28, 1934 — December 24, 2023

Ms. Carolyn Gardner Tadlock entered into rest on Sunday, December 24, 2023, at Brandon Wilde Senior Living Community.

Following her wishes, the family will hold a private internment service at Our Savior Episcopal Church with the Very Rev. Al Crumpton, IV officiating.

Carolyn was born in Washington D.C. to Bruce and Jane Gardner. Her best years growing up were spent in Tampa, Florida enjoying many outdoor activities like fishing, boating and horseback riding. She attended 7th to 12th grade at The Academy of Holy Names in Tampa, a place where she found a love of learning and great friends. Upon graduating high school, she was awarded a one-year scholarship to Barry College, where she decided to pursue nursing as her profession. She transferred to the Tampa General Gordon School of Nursing, where she completed her nursing degree. After graduating, she married Billy Ray Tadlock, had her children, and worked in public nursing for several years. She moved with her family to Augusta, GA in 1970. She worked for St. Joseph Hospital in the Emergency Room and then the Richmond County Health Department. While working for RCHD, she went back to school and earned her Nurse Practitioner degree from Georgia Southern University. Carolyn retired from the Richmond County Health Department, where she spent her career as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She was a member of Our Savior Episcopal Church, where she served as lay minister and lay-reader. She loved volunteering in the kitchen, cooking breakfast for her friends and fellow parishioners on Sundays. Her strong faith also led her to volunteer in the Pastoral Care department of University Hospital and she was an associate with the Convent of St. Helena. She spent many hours crabbing, fishing, sewing, knitting, reading and cooking. She loved life, travelled much, and adored her family and friends. She gave great advice and wise counsel. She will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her children Kathryn J. D’Antignac (Greg Kenworthy, fiancé), William R. Tadlock (Donna), and Laura T. Shuman (Tim); her grandchildren, Kristin House (Chris), Kevin D’Antignac (Ashley), Lauren Redlund (Ethan), Austin Tadlock (Erin), Craig Shuman (Jennie) and Brent Shuman (Cassidy), and her great grandchildren, Madilynn House, Wyatt House, Marshall Redlund, Lena Redlund, Holder Tadlock and Rowan Shuman, and her long-time friend, Camille Woodruff. She’s also survived by a nephew, David Gardner (Erin) and a sister-in-law, Joanne Morgan Gardner. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce H. and Jane A. Gardner and her brother, Bruce H. Gardner Jr.

We offer special thanks to our “Aunt Camille” for her love and compassion to our mom and our family. We also are grateful to her wonderful caregivers at Family Care, Inc. You all made her journey as comfortable as can be. We thank the Brandon Wilde Pavilion Care Team, Nurse Navigator Margaret, and a host of friendly faces that greeted her as they encountered her. We also send special thanks to the Heartland Hospice Team. Every step of the way, you were there to assist, supply, hug and counsel us. We are grateful for your calling to be present with us through this time.
